53 hours journey to Tokyo – entry #2 Budapest
0900-2225. When i arrived at Budapest bus station, Ochi wasn’t there. Waited and waited but no one turned up. Tried but could not contact her. Went to the city and got lost. All hostels was full so headed to the airport and waited for my flight there overnight.
Gosh. That would have been 53 hours journey to Tokyo – entry #1 Vienna Budapestone of the worst case scenarios. Fortunately, thank to Ochi and the advancement of mankind technology, I logged in to facebook via free wifi on bus, blog the first leg of the journey while Ochi texted me, i replied and we arranged to meet. And as the bus pulled into the terminal, she was already there. Super!
Ochi lived with her american boyfriend right in the middle of Budapest. We were there in after twenty minutes from the bus station and forth floor up. Ochi proudly showed me around her vertical house plants garden. She told me the flat is still very much work in progress and it was. Nevertheless her warm welcome just made me felt really comfortable.
I put my bags down and we caught up over a Ochi’s mom raspberry syrup with soda, refreshing. It had been nearly six years since we last met but it felt just like yesterday. The meeting with her brought lots of memory from the past back for me as we went though the ups and downs of our owns during the late part of my time at Bristol. Her life had moved on since our time in Bristol. So had mine. I don’t know if I can say I got over it, but I could say that the bad memories aren’t seem as bitter as it used to anymore.
We left the flat for the city. The sun came out so it was short and tee shirt time.
2307 i was sitting on a couch ready to sleep. It had been a nice day. Lot of overview sightseeing. Walking, cycling, most importantly I got my gift shopping done. Bonus was to sit in the park, watched Hungary girl water polo against australia in the Olympic. Water polo are among other water sports that are big in Hungary. The team came back from 3-7 to 11-11. Australia held on and won during the extra time at 13-11.
We cycled back to the flat. Met her boyfriend. It was an inspiration to met him for me. Am going to do my evening pray now. Perhaps for the past that came back and greeted me today. It was nice to meet you again.
37 hours to go
interesting things I have leant today:
Hungarian are famous for water sport and budapest is a central for filming industry due to its high skilled at low cost.
Ochi was a national gymnastic champion. When asked about her training she said it was painful. “but if you want to be great at something, it normal you have to suffer”. Ahh she put my suffering from the phd over the past weeks into perspective.
